iPhone 6 Impact on Apple Canada
Apple Inc. has confirmed receiving more than four million pre-orders on the first day for its new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Apple has already confirmed that their customers will need to exercise patience until October to finally get their phones. It is however expected that a few deliveries will be made mid September 2014, but a bulk of orders will be dispatched in October. Apple Canada and other U.S. subsidiaries have reported an over demand for the iPhone 6 causing delays in distribution.
In Canada, top dealers such as Virgin Mobile, Bell, Telus, Fido and Rogers have begun accepting new iPhone 6 model pre-orders. Initial delivery date was expected on September 19th, but Apple Canada is unable to meet the steep rising demand and, as a result, some firms such as Bell have posted statements on their websites to clarify that September 19th can no longer be guaranteed. For customers who had purchased iPhone 6 using cash or Bitcoin, the waiting period could easily get to one month before delivery is done.
The good news is that iPhone 6 is also being sold in other places and those going to purchase directly from Apple Canada should instead check with regional carriers Sasktel and MTS who are selling the iPhone. However, buyers should take note that the two carriers are not accepting any pre-orders but instead, waiting for Friday September 19th to have the phones in stock.
The 4.7-inch 16 GB iPhone 6 model is retailing at $375 while the 64GB and 128 GB models cost $485 and $594 respectively along with a two year contract. Compared to 2012 with two million iPhone 5 orders, the number this year has doubled. Apple Canada has definitely witnessed an upsurge in demand never witnessed before even with the launch of iPhone 5S and 5Cs that joined the market last year with global sales totaling to over nine million in the first three days.
Despite the confusion surrounding the pre-orders, Apple Canada has still moved to assure customers that the new iPhone 6 models will be in stock this Friday. Statements posted on Apple Canada, and other global offices indicated that buyers waiting for 5.5-inch Plus models would have to wait for up to four weeks. On the brighter side, the 4.7-inch version will be in stock on Friday September 19.
This is a disappointment for excited buyers who flocked to Bitcoin ATM's and other financial institutions to purchase the new iPhone 6. This is not the first time Apple has grappled with problems of new smartphone releases. On most occasions, there is always an over-demand for new models whenever they are released into the market. Everyone is looking forward to the next few days to see how the confusion surrounding the new iPhone 6 will be sorted out.
